Parties not averse to criminalisation of politics
NEW DELHI, March 22: Despite mounting public criticism about criminalisation of politics, parties continue to field law breakers in elections.They tend to opt for strongmen to ensure victory at the hustings. Strength is assessed in terms of name, fame, notoriety and power ~ both muscle and money. Though both the Election Commission and the judiciary try to ensure that criminals don’t play any role in the democratic process, “neither the rule of law nor our justice delivery system is able to keep the criminals away from seat of governance”, a high-profile judge had commented, while delivering a talk recently.
